West St. Paul city councilman defends his confederate flag

Ed Hansen told the Pioneer Press the flag hanging from his deck represents individual rights and free speech. He says he isn't concerned the flag is considered a controversial symbol because he isn't racist. The Mayor isn't aware of any complaints, but has asked Hansen to take it down.

City Councilman Ed Hansen, who owns Rocco's Pizza in Little Canada, said he flew the flag as a rebel, not a racist. But he has since taken it down after a "long discussion" with the pizza chain's president, who followed up with a letter of apology to City Pages.
