West St. Paul killing was at large gathering; police say attendees uncooperative
West St. Paul police announced Thursday that two people have been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a man this week, though investigators "continue to look for the person(s) directly responsible for shooting the victim."
Arrested in connection to the killing are a 22-year-old Maplewood man and a 20-year-old woman from Champlin. The Maplewood man is being held on probable cause possession of a pistol without a permit, and the woman is jailed on suspicion of aiding an offender and being an accomplice after the fact.
West St. Paul police responded to a report of shots fired at Thompson County Park just before 9 p.m. Wednesday. Officers arrived at the park to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, who has not been identified, died after being taken to a local hospital.
Police say it appeared to be a "targeted shooting" at a large gathering.
"This homicide took place during a large gathering. However, upon arrival at the scene, most had fled and many of those that remained at the scene have not been cooperating," police said.
"We know many were present during the shooting and have information regarding this homicide. If you were present or have ANY information regarding last night’s shooting, please do not wait for officers to reach out. Call the West St. Paul Police Department at 651-552-4200."
