What a prince! Royal couple welcomes new baby boy

The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth Monday to her first child, an 8-pound, 6 ounce boy, NBC News reports.

Many around the world awaited the news, delivered by the palace via press release at 8 p.m. local time, NBC reported. The child who is now third in line to the throne was born at 4:24 p.m., CNN reported.

The Duchess' labor lasted 14 hours at London's St. Mary’s Hospital, NBC noted.

Prince William called Queen Elizabeth personally to notify her – she was the first to hear the news, according to traditional protocol.

And the name? Not announced yet. Oddsmakers are taking bets, CBS reports. Among the top contenders: George, Alexander and James.
