What's brewing: Coffee shop news to perk you up

Of all the things that might keep you up at night, you need not worry about finding enough coffee. The week brought news of fresh places to Joe up, with some treats on the side.

The Business Journal reported that Minnesota-based Dunn Brothers Coffee is continuing its expansion in North Dakota with a new shop planned on the south side of Grand Forks. It's expected to start grinding and pouring in late March or early April. The Minneapolis chain already has locations in Fargo and Bismarck.

The Line Media reports that Five Watt Coffee is coming to south Minneapolis within the next month. The indie coffee shop will open in an 1,100-square-foot space in a century-old building at 38th and Nicollet in the Kingfield neighborhood.

Those who like something to nosh during a coffee break should head to Woodbury. The Pioneer Press had the news that Sugar Love Bakery is planning a grand opening in Woodbury later in January. The bakery's website promises freshly made, from-scratch baked goods, including cakes, cupcakes and cookies. (Check out a photo of a fancy cupcake from the Sugar Love website.)

Patch reported that Bruegger's Bagels is planning a "completely new design, which will be rolled out first at a flagship location in Woodbury," according to a company spokeswoman. The new design, which will include an open kitchen and communal seating, will go on display on Jan. 22. That's also the day that Bruegger's will launch a $10,000 contest for art for a large brick feature wall.

Finally, the Business Journal reports that Caribou Coffee will perk up its image with a 64-foot-tall Pinterest board that will stretch to the fifth floor at the Mall of America. It's to promote the company's new Real Inspiration coffee blend, which was developed with feedback from Pinterest users. The board, made of vinyl with cutouts for TV screens, will hang from the ceiling in the rotunda. The board will be installed on Feb. 3 and will be on display for 10 days.
