Where's Santa? These maps let you track Jolly Old St. Nick on his travels

Santa, I know him!

It's Christmas Eve, which means Santa Claus is making his way around the world.

And while you're anxiously waiting for the man in the red suit to climb down your chimney, you can track him – and his reindeer – on his journey, which typically starts in the South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand.

There are two ways to keep an eye on him:

There's the NORAD Santa Tracker, which is operated by the North American Aerospace Defense Command, has been keeping track of Jolly Old St. Nicholas since 1955 using satellites, high-powered radar, jet fighters and special Santa cameras. (It all started with a type in a newspaper – read about it all in this NPR story.)

You can follow Santa online here or below, or by downloading the Santa tracker app on your phone. Find out more here.

Then there's Google's Santa Tracker, which has been telling kids how far away Santa is for 12 years, the website says. The map shows you the latest updates on Santa's location, and how far away he is from you. It also gives you some fun facts about the city he's in, and lets you explore it using Street View.

To track Santa via Google, click here. Or you can visit Google Maps and search Santa or download the Google Santa Tracker app.
