White House confirms pick for next Minnesota U.S. Attorney

It's nominated Dakota County District Court Judge Erica MacDonald.

The Trump Administration has revealed its nominee to replace Andrew Luger as the U.S. Attorney for Minnesota.

The White House confirmed on Tuesday that it will nominate Erica H. MacDonald, who currently serves as the District Judge for Dakota County.

She was appointed a District Judge by former Governor Tim Pawlenty in January 2010 and was re-elected in November 2012, with her current term due to expire in 2019.

Prior to this, she was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Minnesota, a position in which she served for eight years.

The permanent position of U.S. Attorney has been vacant since March 2017 when Andrew Luger stepped down in the wake of President Donald Trump's election.

Her appointment is subject to confirmation by Congress, but it doesn't look like she'll face too much opposition if Minnesota Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar's reaction to her nomination is anything to go by.

"I had a good meeting with her months ago and I told the Department of Justice and the Administration that she would be a good candidate for the job," she said in a statement.

"As a member of the Judiciary Committee, I look forward to working with her as her nomination moves forward."
