Al Franken will again bring the state's lawmakers together with a Minnesota favorite – and a little competition.

Minnesota's Congressional Delegation will compete for the best hot dish in Franken's sixth annual cook-off.

“The annual hot dish competition gives an opportunity for the Minnesota Congressional delegation to take a break from partisanship and come together over a vibrant Minnesota tradition: hot dish,” the U.S. senator said in an email news release Thursday.

All 10 members of the state's congressional delegation are expected to provide a hot dish, which will be judged based on taste, originality and presentation.

Rep. Betty McCollum won the competition last year with her turkey, sweet potato and wild rice hot dish, beating out Rep. Tim Walz. Walz was the back-to-back winner in 2014 with his turkey trot tater-tot hot dish and in 2013 with his Hermann the German hot dish.

Franken won in 2012 with his mom's Mahnomin madness hot dish, while former Rep. Chip Cravaack's Minnesota Wild strata hot dish tied for first with Sen. Amy Klobuchar's taconite tater-tot hot dish in 2011.

Following the competition, Franken will post the winner – and all of the delegation's recipes – on the senator's website.

They'll also be making a donation to Second Harvest Heartland, a Minnesota-based food bank.
