Why did Target pull a Cards Against Humanity expansion pack from sale?

The game known for being offensive might have gotten TOO offensive.

What happened?

Target pulled an expansion of Cards Against Humanity – called the "Chosen People Pack" – from shelves, after complaints of anti-Semitism.

The expansion is sold as the "Jew Pack" on the Cards Against Humanity website.

Cards Against Humanity?

It's a group card game, where players compete to pair the funniest/cleverest/most offensive answer cards in response to question cards.

Questions include, "What gives me uncontrollable gas?" and "What's fun until it gets weird?"

Famously near-the-knuckle answers include "the white/black half of Barack Obama," "incest," "a mime having a stroke" and "date rape."

But isn't the game meant to offend?

Yes, it is. In fact, some of the answers in the original Cards Against Humanity pack include "Auschwitz," "poorly-time Holocaust jokes" and "Seeing things from Hitler's perspective."

That's not to mention a bevy of other racist, sexist, etc. answers, so it's not like this should come as a surprise.

But the "Chosen People Pack" went too far for some players who say it makes light of the Holocaust (more than it already had previously), with answers including "Torturing Jews until they say they're not Jews anymore" and "The part of Anne Frank's Diary where she talks about her vagina."

What did Target say?

Target responded to Mike Lieber's above tweet, saying: "We are aware of this extended card pack of the game Cards Against Humanity and are in the process of removing it from our stores.

"We apologize for any disappointment as it is never our intention to offend our guests with the products we carry. Thank you!"

One of Lieber's main complaints about the pack is that it is the only expansion that targets a religion/ethnic group, with others including the "Weed Pack," the "Period Pack" and the "Food Pack."

The Cards Against Humanity website meanwhile notes that "100% of the Cards Against Humanity writers are Jewish."

"Can you believe it? A Jewish comedy writer! Anything is possible in 2017," it adds.

Business Insider notes the "Chosen People Pack" is still for sale on Walmart.com.
