If you live in south Minneapolis you will likely have heard the drone of helicopter blades for much of Wednesday afternoon.

The chopper has been a relentless presence for several hours in the area south of downtown, occasioning plenty of comment on social media.

The helicopter belongs to the Minnesota State Patrol, which told BMTN its presence had been requested by Minneapolis Police Department and directed all enquiries to MPD.

When MPD was received, its statement was vague: "The Minneapolis Police Department has requested their assistance in an investigation.

"Whereas I cannot share any details of this investigation, I can tell you that there is no threat to the public."

Expect more details to be released later, but for now the reason for the helicopter's presence remains unknown.
