Charges filed Monday accuse the wife of a Minnesota National Guard sergeant of plotting the man's death and hiring a friend to carry it off.

KSTP reports the murder and conspiracy charges against Heather Horst, 24, of St. Paul contend she hoped to collect money from her husband's military life insurance policy. The charges say she planned to make the death of Brandon Horst look like it was committed by an intruder.

Also charged is 25-year-old Aaron Allen of South St. Paul. As the Star Tribune reports, Allan is the fiancé of Brandon Horst's stepsister. He is accused of firing the fatal gunshot to the head while Horst slept soon after midnight on the morning of August 5th.

The charges reference police interviews with Allen's fiancé. Fox 9 reports the woman alleged that she and Allen were visited by Heather Horst on August 4th. Horst allegedly told the pair she'd been arguing with her husband, couldn't take it anymore, and "wanted him dead."

Brandon Horst was a staff sergeant with the National Guard's 133rd Security Force Squadron, Fox 9 says. The Star Tribune reports his military life insurance policy was worth $400,000 and he held another policy worth $80,000, with Heather Horst the beneficiary of each.
