Some point between the dangerous car chase and the standoff with SWAT teams, the thief must have asked himself: Was it really worth stealing from Target?

The dramatic incident unfolded in Cottage Grove on Friday, when police were initially called to a theft in progress at the Target on 8655 East Point Douglas.

The suspect had pushed a cart full of merchandise out to a waiting vehicle, and then drove off as officers tried to stop him.

A chase ensued that got immediately dangerous, with a passerby attempting to veer towards the suspect vehicle, only to miss and hit a police car instead.

Another officer chased, attempting the pit maneuver which caused the suspect's vehicle to spin out, only for him to then drive through yards and fences as he continued his attempted escape.

The chase eventually ended in the 8600 block of Grenadier Avenue, when the suspect tried to drive through more yards but failed, only to reverse and ram the squad car tailing him.

After he refused to speak with negotiators, gas was thrown into garage at which point the SWAT entered, with the suspect trying to resist arrest when they found him hiding in a truck inside the garage.

He was taken to Regions Hospital, as were two Cottage Grove officers who were evaluated after getting injured in the chase.

Charges are pending in the case.
