The coworkers of a Willmar man who was killed by an errant bullet while working in his garage have started a memorial fund in his honor.
David Delfosse, 41, was working in his garage on Jan. 15 when an "errant bullet" pierced a garage wall and fatally struck him in the chest, according to the Willmar Police Department.
The fatal gunshot happened on the 1000 block of 4th St. SW around 7:40 p.m., with the sheriff's office reporting that witnesses saw Delfosse "suddenly collapse." Delfosse was pronounced dead at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Authorities are investigating the shooting as a homicide, though "there is no evidence to indicate the homeowner was an intended target or victim."
"We mourn with the family as we face the reality of this tragedy together. Dave was a passionate leader who consistently looked for ways to improve himself and his coworkers," the page says. "He was a leader in all areas of life and we grieve with his daughter, son and family. His passing creates a hole that will not be filled and we pray that the Holy Spirit will comfort all of us at this time."
The page, which launched last week, surpassed its $7,500 goal on Jan. 20, raising $13,090 as of Monday morning.
