Winona student, 15, may face charge after pocket knife seizure

A 15-year-old Winona High School student faces a possession of a dangerous weapon charge after he allegedly brought a pocket knife with him to school by accident, the Winona Daily News reports.

Winona's police chief said Monday that the boy was stopped on school grounds Oct. 4 and asked to empty his pockets. The search reportedly turned up the pocket knife, a lighter and two cans of chewing snuff.

Police Chief Tom Williams said the boy explained he used the pocket knife at work and forgot that he had the device on him. Williams said the boy did not show the knife to anyone at the school, nor did he make any threats.

The boy was also cited for having tobacco on school grounds.

News of the pocket knife seizure comes not long after another 15-year-old male was accused of bringing a loaded, .22 caliber handgun over the course of a couple weeks to Winona High School.

According to the Daily News, the student was also accused of pointing the gun at another student by a school bike rack.

A week later, KAGE-AM reported that the father of a female student at the school reported to authorities that the boy pointed the gun at his daughter during a high school football game.

As of last week, the boy was in custody at a juvenile detention facility.
