Wisconsin girl seriously hurt in bike crash dies in St. Paul hospital

Her parents have decided to donate her organs.

Following a bicycle accident that left her with serious brain trauma, a 10-year-old Wisconsin girl has died at a Twin Cities children's hospital.

Morgan Greene, of New Richmond, was airlifted to Gillette Children's in St. Paul last Tuesday, and the outlook was grim from the start.

"Her brain and spine are the things injured most," her parents said in a plea for prayers on a CaringBridge site last week, shortly after the accident.

It was soon discovered that Morgan's heart had also stopped beating, resulting in a "lack of oxygen to her brain for a while."

And this weekend, the family reported the worst possible news: two rounds of scans showed no brain activity, and Morgan was "declared passed away" Saturday morning.

There's been an outpouring of support for the family, with nearly $12,000 in donations piling up on a GoFundMe page set up in Morgan's honor

Additionally, her parents said they were "overwhelmed" with all the beautiful comments on Morgan's CaringBridge page and on Facebook, where the family's fundraising effort received thousands of shares.

The Greenes have announced they'll be donating their daughter's organs, "to save hopefully other little girls or boys so their families don't have to go through the same thing."

Meanwhile, the driver who hit Morgan last Tuesday is cooperating with New Richmond police as they investigate the accident, the department said last week.

He did not appear to be under the influence of drugs.

Police say Morgan was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
