Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to skip state's fishing opener
Wintry conditions are causing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's skip an annual spring event in the state, The Associated Press reports.
Wisconsin's annual Governor's Fishing Opener is set for this weekend, but there's more than a foot of snow in the Bayfield County, where the event is held.
According to the state's Deputy Tourism Secretary Dave Fantle, Walker still wants to go fishing at Lake Namekagon, but wants to showcase the area under safer conditions.
Fantle said Walker hopes to reschedule his visit soon.
The AP says some northern lakes in Wisconsin have 20 inches of ice on them still, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued a note of caution when the state's fishing season starts Saturday.
Last week the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reported open water on Lake Namekagon.
The Minnesota Governor's Fishing Opener with Gov. Mark Dayton is set for May 11 in Park Rapids.
