Wolf hunters, trappers reach target harvest in northeast Minnesota
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will close the northeast Minnesota zone to wolf hunters and trappers Wednesday night after 35 wolves were killed, exceeding the late season target of 33.
Minnesota Public Radio reports the zone will officially close to hunters a half hour after sunset and 10 p.m. for trappers.
It's open season in the northwest and east central wolf zones until Jan. 31 or until the targets are reached.
Overall, including the early wolf season that concluded in late November, 177 wolves have been harvested. The state's target is 220 wolves -- about half the state's goal during the 2012-2013 season, MPR says.
