A woman has been arrested after fleeing police in Hermantown and leading them on a chase in a stolen vehicle.
The 21-year-old woman was taken into custody following the Christmas Day chase, which started with a Hermantown police officer noticed a suspicious vehicle outside a Walmart, which was closed for Christmas.
The officer followed and tried to initiate a traffic stop on the southbound Miller Trunk Highway, only for the vehicle to flee into the Miller Mall parking lot.
Due to the dangerous speeds and driving involved in the pursuit, police had to abandon the chase over safety concerns.
However, a short time later the vehicle was found unoccupied in the 3700 block of Haines Road.
As police awaited a K-9 unit, an officer found footprints in the snow and tracked them to the suspect, arresting them and taking property and evidence from them that linked them to the stolen vehicle.
The woman was taken to St. Louis County Jail on probable cause fleeing a peace officer in a vehicle, felony possession of stolen property, and driving after a suspension.
Nobody was injured and no property was damaged.
The vehicle had previously been reported stolen out of Duluth.
