Woman, 42, found shot to death in NW Wisconsin home

An investigation is now underway.

A small town of about 500 in northwestern Wisconsin is the site of a potential homicide investigation this weekend, following the discovery of a body at a local residence.

Early Friday morning, deputies from both Washburn and Sawyer counties responded to the scene and soon found a woman dead of apparent gunshot wounds, a news release says.

Authorities say the woman was 42 years old. Her name was being withheld pending notification of her family.

Few other details were disclosed in the news release, though it does say that multiple agencies are involved in the investigation — including the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory and the state's department of justice.

"We believe this is an isolated incident and the community is not at risk at this time," the release adds.
