A 42-year-old woman was killed in a head-on crash Thursday night in northeastern Minnesota.
The Minnesota State Patrol says a 54-year-old Cloquet man was traveling east on Highway 2 east of Brookston around 8:50 p.m. when he crossed the center line, hitting a vehicle that was traveling west.
The driver of the other vehicle, Melissa Maria Kalinoski, of Cromwell, was killed.
The Cloquet man suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The State Patrol's report notes he wasn't wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
It's been a deadly year on Minnesota's roads. From January-August of this year, 247 people have been killed in traffic crashes on Minnesota roads, the state Office of Traffic Safety says. Of those who were killed, 71 people died in alcohol-related crashes.
