A woman was killed in northern Minnesota after her car left the road and hit a free.

The crash happened at 4:53 p.m. on the 6500 block of Highway 47 in Alborn, St. Louis County, northwest of Duluth.

A vehicle driven by Rachel Wermter, 61, of Culver, skidded off the road and came to rest against a tree.

Wermer was killed in the crash, with no other passengers or vehicles involved.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says that alcohol and speed are "believed to be factors."

There have been 250 people killed on Minnesota roads so far in 2019. Last year at the same time there had been 234 fatalities.
