A woman died from injuries she sustained at her home in central Minnesota when she fell into a fire pit in her backyard.

Mary Femrite, 63, died on Jan. 12 at Hennepin County Medical Center, two days after she fell while tending to a "recreational fire" outside her home in Zimmerman, Sherburne County.

She had been airlifted to HCMC after initially being driven to a hospital in Princeton for treatment.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office says she died from complications resulting from the thermal injuries she suffered in her fall, ruling her death an accident.

Per her obituary, Femrite is survived by her husband of 33 years, Cary, their two children and her six siblings.

She grew up in Little Canada, Minnesota, and was a former student of St. Cloud State University and Hennepin Community College.

She also spent 40 years of her career working as a respiratory therapist at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.

Her funeral will be held this Saturday in Elk River.
