Woman, 82, killed after her car is broadsided in Brown County

She was airlifted to hospital but later died.

A woman died in a crash on Thanksgiving evening in Brown County, Minnesota.

The 82-year-old, identified as Lois Birkemeyer, of Comfrey, was driving her 2011 Buick Lucerne when she was broadsided at the intersection of County Roads 17 and 5, west of Comfrey, just before 6 p.m.

The other vehicle, a 2013 Chrysler van, was driven by an 80-year-old woman from Windom, with two passengers also in the van.

All four people involved were taken to a hospital in Springfield for initial treatment, before Birkemeyer was flown to Mayo in Rochester.

The Brown County Sheriff's Office confirmed that she died from her injuries around 9:45 p.m.

Both vehicles involved in the crash were total losses, and the Brown County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
