Woman attacked, sexually assaulted near the U of M

A woman cleaning snow off her car Monday morning was sprayed in the face with a chemical irritant and then sexually assaulted, the University of Minnesota said in a crime alert Monday afternoon.

Police are still looking for the suspect.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Eighth Street Southeast and 13th Avenue Southeast, just a few blocks from campus.

The crime alert said the victim was in an apartment parking lot when the suspect approached her from behind, sprayed her in the face with a chemical irritant and then forced her to the ground before he sexually assaulted her.

The suspect then fled through an alley. Minneapolis police responded to the incident, but have not located the suspect.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. Her condition was not released.

The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build, who is between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet, 1 inch tall. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants with three white strips on the side.
