Woman dead, another critical after shooting in St. James

Police are investigating the double shooting in the southern Minnesota city.

A woman is dead and another critically wounded after a double shooting in the city of St. James on Saturday evening.

The incident on the 1100 block of 1st Avenue South was reported at 5:41 p.m., St. James police said.

One woman was killed in the shooting, while another woman was airlifted to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester after also been shot.

She is currently in a critical condition.

Police say there is no threat to the general public. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Watonwan County Sheriff's Office are assisting the investigation.

The city of St. James is in Watonwan County, south-central Minnesota, about 40 miles southwest of Mankato. It has a population of around 4,600.
