A woman has died from injuries sustained when she was dragged by a horse in west-central Minnesota on Friday.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened at a residence on the 38000 block of Beaver Dam Road in Star Lake just before 11 a.m. Friday.

The woman, a 47-year-old from South Fargo, North Dakota, was reported to have been dragged "a long distance" by the horse and was unconscious when 911 was called.

Several emergency responders scrambled to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead from her injuries when they arrived.

It appeared that the woman had been walking the horse with a lead rope, which had been wrapped around her arm.

It's not clear what caused the horse to drag her.

The victim's name will be released at a later stage by a medical examiner.
