The driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal crash was arrested Monday night in Minneapolis.

Just prior to the crash, multiple 911 callers reported a motorist driving erratically and at high rates of speed. When police responded to the crash at 8:07 p.m. near Emerson Ave. N and 40th Ave. N, officers discovered the driver had struck unoccupied vehicles that were parked on the street.

Tragically, a woman in the vehicle was ejected and died at the scene.

Minneapolis PD believes that the suspicious vehicle that was driving erratically and at high rates of speed is the vehicle involved on the fatal crash, and the driver was detained at the scene.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that excessive speed and alcohol may be contributing factors in this crash," MPD said in a release.

The identities of the victim and the driver have not been provided. The crash site was investigated by MPD's traffic force and its crime lab.
