One woman is dead after a shooting inside a downtown Minneapolis club.

According to a news release, Minneapolis police responded to a shooting call at Augies Cabaret, an adult entertainment establishment in the Warehouse District, just before 1:15 a.m. Saturday.

Inside, officers found a woman dead from "apparent gunfire." Police say it does not appear to be a random incident.

Numerous witnesses were interviewed and evidence was collected.

WCCO reports a woman turned herself into police in connection with the shooting Saturday morning.

According to the Star Tribune, Augies has a metal detector and high-definition surveillance cameras.

Minneapolis Police Public Information Officer John Elder told KSTP Augies isn't a particularly troublesome spot for the department.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 32-year-old Lakisha Marie Neal. She died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Violence in Minneapolis clubs

The killing comes just two nights after a shooting at 19 Bar in Loring Park, about 1 mile away – FOX 9 reports the suspect in that incident was arrested Friday afternoon.

Police say an individual was kicked out of the bar Wednesday night, then fired multiple shots into the front entrance. Two people were hit and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Devon Michael Glen Strouss, 23, was charged Friday with two counts of assault and one count of discharging a weapon, KARE 11 reports.

KSTP says police received a text tip that led them to Strouss, and authorities executed a search warrant at his house. According to the station, authorities say Strouss had a dog with him at the bar the evening of the shooting, and a canine found at Strouss' home appears to be the same animal.

And in August, nine people were shot at the 400 SoundBar night club in what police described as a gang-related incident.

One of the victims, 27-year-old Dion Darnell Nathaniel Toney, died from his wounds more than a month later, which authorities believe sparked a lockdown at Hennepin County Medical Center that day. His death may have also been the source of a shooting in south Minneapolis days later, which injured three people.

The 400 SoundBar nightclub, which was the site of numerous violence incidents over the years, closed shortly after the shooting.

Epic Nightclub, the scene of a fatal shooting in November of 2013, also ceased operations after its violent incident. Tyrone Washington, 23, was killed in the incident; Minneapolis police described him as a known gang member.

That year, police had responded to 65 calls at Epic, many for violent assaults. The year prior, there were 94 police calls. The space – about a block west of Augies – was recently taken over by Shout House, a dueling-piano bar, the Business Journal reported.

Karma, a club down the street from that spot, was shut down by the city three years ago for being a public nuisance.
