Police have made a number of arrests following an incident in which a woman was robbed of her purse, and then her SUV.

The incident was reported at 3:31 p.m. in Columbia Heights, where a woman said she was approached by a teenage male who stole her purse as she walked in a parking lot at 3900 block of University Ave. NE.

The suspect then got into a vehicle and began to leave the area, only for the victim and a teenage boy who was with her to see the suspect come back into the area.

The woman then started following the suspect vehicle, at which point it stopped, with one occupant in the vehicle flashing a gun.

Two others then got out and "entered and stole the victim's vehicle," which the Anoka County Sheriff's Office say is a black Kia Sportage, before both vehicles fled the area.

Police came across both vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed in the 8200 block of Hickory St. NE, with "multiple suspects" fleeing from both vehicles.

The arrests of an as-yet unconfirmed number of suspects were made following a search of the area.

Police say the vehicle that brought the suspects to the parking lot where they stole the woman's purse was also stolen.

The incident comes following a spate of carjackings in recent weeks, with groups of young suspects carrying out a string of them in St. Paul and other Twin Cities locations.
