A woman was struck and killed by a driver in St. Paul on Thursday evening.

The collision happened in St. Paul's Greater East Side neighborhood, near the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue East and North Manton Street around 5:15 p.m.

Police arrived to find the woman lying gravely injured on the eastbound lane of Larpenteur.

Based on witness accounts, the victim was trying to cross Larpenteur when she possibly fell to the ground, at which point she was hit by an eastbound-traveling 2009 Kia.

The driver of the Kia, a 35-year-old man from Maplewood, stopped at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Police don't believe the driver was impaired, and gave blood samples to assist the investigation.

No arrests have been made. The victim's name will likely be released on Friday.
