Woman killed in freak lawnmower accident in western Wisconsin

A western Wisconsin woman was killed when she was run over by a riding lawnmower.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened at 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday in Township of Sumner, south of Osseo.

The victim, identified as 63-year-old Deanna Matchey, was operating a John Deere riding lawnmower on a hillside when it rolled on top of her.

She was pinned underneath, and died from her injuries. 

Responses to the sheriff's office announcement on Facebook identify Matchey as a former teacher and JV basketball coach.

The incident is under investigation by sheriff's authorities.
