The two people found dead in a Ramsey home late Friday have been identified as 30-year-old Courtney Monson, and 41-year-old Bryce Monson.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Monday Bryce Monson shot his wife multiple times then shot himself, following a "violent confrontation" in which he was the aggressor.

The news release says Courtney Monson had gone into the basement with three of her four children, as a way to try to escape her husband.

Four children – ages 12, 9, 3 and 2 – were "present," the sheriff's office says, adding they're now being cared for by family members.

All four are children of Courtney Monson, while two are also children of Bryce Monson.

A 'loving mother, daughter, sister ... and so much more'

On a GoFundMe page, Courtney Monson is described as "a loving mother, daughter, sister, cousin, friend, workout buddy and so much more," adding she "strived to provide [her children] with the best life possible."

The page was hoping to raise $20,000 to be put into a savings account under the care of the childrens' grandmother, to help with the cost of a funeral and future care of the kids.

The page has raised nearly $23,000 in one day.

The incident is being investigated.

Domestic violence in Minnesota

The Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women says at least 34 people died in Minnesota from suspected domestic violence last year. The “Femicide Report” shows 22 women and three men died at the hands of a partner or an ex.

The nine others killed include four children killed by their mothers’ boyfriend or husband, three men killed by an ex of the woman they were dating, and two who were “interveners” or bystanders in a domestic dispute.

It marks a rise on the 23 Minnesotans who died from domestic violence in 2014.

If you need help, the coalition has a list of resources (phone help lines, advocacy offices, legal help, shelters and more) available. Click here to search by county.

A 24-hour phone line is available at (866) 223-1111.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached at (800) 799-7233 or 1-800-787-3224 (TTY)
