A woman in her 30s was killed on Saturday evening when she crashed her SUV into a tree on Hwy. 55 in Minneapolis.
The collision was reported at 9:17 p.m. at Olson Memorial Highway (55) and Penn Avenue.
Police arrived at the scene and found that a silver SUV heading eastbound had left the road west of Penn Avenue, struck a fire hydrant, and continued east across Penn Avenue where it struck a tree.
The female driver, who was the only person inside the SUV, was found dead at the scene.
Minneapolis Police Department says that speed may have been a factor in the crash.
The identity of the victim and their cause of death will be released at a later date by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.
While the number of reported crashes in Minnesota have reduced by almost half since the coronavirus-related shutdowns, the Minnesota State Patrol has been receiving increased reports of aggressive driving and excessive speeds on roads.
