While a Minnesota woman was on a business trip in India she became attached to several stray dogs and had them transported back to the United States to find homes, according to the St. Cloud Times.

Heather Bruhn-Worm, a Minnetonka resident, brought six dogs back to Minnesota this month to give them a better life. Three of them were flown to the Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud. The others were brought to a Twin Cities shelter.

This wasn’t the first time she’s brought animals back – Bruhn-Worm has arranged for the rescue and transportation of 21 dogs from India thus far, according to the St. Cloud Times.

“The bottom line is that I saw a need,” Bruhn-Worm told the St. Cloud Times. “I couldn’t turn my back on them knowing that the majority of them, if not all of them, would’ve died had I not intervened.”

Bruhn-Worm, an information technologist, has traveled to India twoce for her company, van Wagenen Financial Services, which is located in Eden Prairie.

Last September, on her first day in India, she befriended a dog and her eight puppies that were living in a drainage culvert near her office building. She had them flown to the United States, too, for roughly $5,000.

“I began feeding this mother dog and her puppies, and then when it became time to leave, I just knew that I had gotten them used to people and had now gotten them used to food, and there was just no way that I could leave them there to possibly die,” Bruhn-Worm told the St. Cloud Times of her first rescue.

The most recent batch of medium-sized puppies is up for adoption for $300. As of Friday, two of the puppies had deposits put on them by potential adopters.

Bruhn-Worm plans to continue rescuing animals that are in dire situations, the St. Cloud Times reported.
