A woman has died after being stabbed multiple times by her partner following a fight inside their Duluth home.
The couple's child called police at 8:23 p.m. on Sunday, telling a dispatcher that their parents were fighting at their home on the 800 block of Chester Park Drive.
Upon arriving, police were met by a 40-year-old man with blood on his clothing, and inside they found a 41-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The man meanwhile was taken into custody and is being held in a local hospital on an arrested hold.
Once he's released, he's expected to be taken to St. Louis County Jail pending formal charges.
The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy on the woman, after which her identity is expected to be released.
Domestic violence in Minnesota
The Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women reports that in 79 percent of fatal domestic violence cases where the woman was the victim in 2017, the killer was an intimate partner.
In a third of cases, the victim was either separated or trying to leave the partner who killed them.
More than 65,000 adults in Minnesota use domestic violence service programs every year, though fewer than 50 percent of those suffering from domestic violence ever reach out for help.
