Police on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi River are investigating after a woman's body was pulled from the water Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies in Pierce County were called around 12:20 p.m. after a fisherman saw the body floating in the river in near Everts Resort in Trenton, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said.

It's not clear how long the woman had been in the river, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Pierce County Herald reports the woman was 40-50 years old.

She is expected to be identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

Trenton is just west of Hager City, which is on the other side of the Hwy. 63 bridge from Red Wing.

The incident remains under investigation.
