'You touched my heart': Seniors ditch traditional prank to say thanks

Seniors at a west metro high school skipped the traditionally mischievous end-of-the-year prank, instead surprising school staff and their retiring principal with heartfelt messages of thanks.

At 10 a.m. Friday, seniors at Mound Westonka High School left class and all walked to the office, leaving school staff wondering what they had planned, WCCO reports.

But instead of being disruptive like many previous seniors, the class of 2015 hung Post-It notes with messages of gratitude for everyone at the school – from office administrators and janitors to their teachers and other staff.

Many of the messages of thanks were for longtime principal Keith Randklev, who is retiring after 21 years with Westonka Public Schools.

A video about the "prank" posted to YouTube (watch it above) says the students wanted to be remembered as a class who always paid it forward.

"You touched my heart," Randklev says in the video as he joins the seniors outside of the office. "I'm grateful."

“I haven’t had that feeling of pride in a particular group of students in my recent memory,” Marty Fischer, assistant principal at MWHS, told WCCO.
