A young woman had a lucky escape in the Minnesota Iron Range when her car slid on an icy road into the side of a passing freight train.

The incident happened about 3 miles southwest of Eveleth at around 3 p.m. Monday.

Behind the wheel of a Nissan Altima was 20-year-old Makenzey Goerdt, of Eveleth, who was traveling west on Ramshaw Road approaching a train crossing.

Heading south at the time was a Canadian National train. Goerdt was unable to stop her car in time, and slid into one of the passing train's rail cars as it crossed the intersection.

While her car was a total loss as a result of the crash, Goerdt was fortunately uninjured.

In a post on her Facebook page, she wrote: "All I can say is, I have one very special angel up there looking out for me."

"Be safe out there people, accidents happen fast," she added. "Before you know it, your life will flash before your eyes. I thank god for another day."
