Police say a young male was killed Sunday evening in what may be connected to a road rage incident.
St. Paul PD said it was called at 8:$5 p.m. to the intersection of 7th Street East and Mounds Boulevard in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood to find a male in his late teens unconscious but breathing with gunshot wounds.
He was taken to Regions Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Homicide investigators say that based on preliminary investigation, the shooting "may be connected to a road rage incident," but at this point it's not clear how the victim was involved, and no arrests have been made.
The victim will be identified in the coming days. It's the third homicide in 24 hours and 21st homicide in St. Paul this year, the same number as at the same time in 2020.
There has been an uptick in road rage incidents reported across the country since the pandemic began in 2020.
Everytown for Gun Safety found that in 2020, the number of gun-involved road rage incidents that ended with death or injury almost doubled to 42 per month, compared to 22 per month in the four years previous.
A notable and still unsolved incident in Minnesota saw father Jay Boughton fatally shot in the head on Hwy. 169 in July.
