Police in Anoka County are investigating the death of a young man whose body was found in a state wildlife area on Saturday morning.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says it was called to the Carlos Avery State Wildlife Management Area in Columbus, Minnesota, at 9:50 a.m. Saturday on the report of an unresponsive male.

When they arrived at the scene near the 8000 block of Headquarters Road, deputies found the man dead "with visible external injuries" that the sheriff's office says were "indicative of a physical assault."

The victim has been identified as Mort Siwe, 20, of St. Paul.

At this stage, no arrests have been made, with anyone with information asked to contact the sheriff's office at (763) 427-1212.

The Minnesota DNR is assisting the sheriff's office in its investigation.
