Young woman shot multiple times in small town in southern MN

The victim is a woman in her early 20s, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities in Sibley County are investigating a shooting that left a woman injured early this week.

According to the sheriff's office, an assault with a firearm was reported just after 12:15 a.m. Monday on the 300 block of W. 3rd St. in Winthrop, with officers arriving at the scene to find a woman in her early 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital and then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Her current condition is unknown.

No arrests have been made but the Sibley County Sheriff's Office said the incident didn't appear to be random and it "does not believe that the public is in danger."

Anyone with information about the shooting or anyone with surveillance cameras in the area is urged to contact the sheriff's office by calling 507-237-4330, or the Winthrop Police Department at 507-647-5500.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the investigation.
