Another muggy day: Strong to severe storms possible Sunday, then beautiful

The muggy conditions we've seen over the past few days in Minnesota will give way to cooler and less humid air by Monday, the Labor Day holiday.

But Sunday is the transition day, when rain showers and possibly some severe weather move through.

The weather Sunday will be much like Saturday. Expect very warm and muggy conditions with temperatures in the upper 80s and heat index values in the 90s, KSTP reports.

Isolated thunderstorms that popped up overnight and brought heavy rain, thunder and lighting to the Twin Cities, and

" target="_blank">torrential downpours to the Northland is expected to move out of the area by 1 p.m.

However, the chance for rain and possibly severe weather increases later in the day as a cold front moves in from east to west.

It will break our September heat wave, but with that comes an increased threat of heavy downpours, large hail and damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely in the Twin Cities, mainly after 3 p.m., with the height of the storm expected between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., the weather service notes.

Less humid for Labor Day

Labor Day itself will be a beautiful day. It's expected to be partly cloudy, less humid and very pleasant with high temperatures around 80.

The rest of next week will be cooler, with highs in the 70s in the beginning of the week and cooler temperatures - highs in the 60s – by the end of the week.
