Zach Sobiech passed away 18 months ago now. But his memory continues to inspire Minnesotans.

Thousands of people are expected to gather at the Mall of America next week to once again sing the late teenager's inspirational song "Clouds."

In a news release, the mall said they're expecting more than 5,000 people to attend the Thursday, Dec. 11 event.

School choirs, church choirs, groups and families will first perform holiday songs, leading up to "Clouds" for the finale. The Sounds of Blackness will lead the chorus.

Anyone interested in participating can register by clicking here.

The event will raise money for Children’s Cancer Research Fund and Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare while also honoring Sobiech. It's part of the KS95 for Kids Radiothon.

The “World’s Largest ‘Clouds’ Choir,” as it has been dubbed, drew nearly 5,000 to the mall's rotunda last year. There, the people sang along with the late Lakeland, Minnesota, teen’s song. Watch footage here:

The Pioneer Press has a slideshow of the performance, which Sobiech’s family attended.

Wiping away tears, Zach Sobiech’s mother, Laura Sobiech, told the paper the performance “was incredibly moving” and “such a fitting tribute to Zach and his song and his legacy.”

Zach Sobiech died on May 20 at the age of 18 from osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. He wrote and performed “Clouds” as a goodbye song to his family and friends, and the video version of the tune went viral on YouTube.
