Gophers defeat Huskies, 2-1

The No. 3-rated Gophers (18-9-1, 14-5-0) ended their Friday night losing streak at Mariucci Arena with a 2-1 victory over St. Cloud State (10-13-4, 7-9-3). Nick Bjugstad scored the game-winning goal about halfway through the second period. U of M will travel to the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud Saturday night for the second half of this home-and-home series.

Gophers complete first sweep of 2012

Minnesota (19-9-1, 13-5-0 WCHA) held onto a 3-2 victory over St. Cloud State University Saturday night at the National Hockey Center. The Huskies (10-14-4, 7-10-3 WCHA) netted the first lead, but the Gophers freshman forward Sam Warning went to score the game-winning goal with less than two minutes left in the third. Minnesota is off to Denver in two weeks. The Gophers now lead UMD by five points in the WCHA standings.

Gophers beat Tigers, 2-1

Nico Sacchetti scored the winning goal for the Golden Gophers (17-9-1, 13-5-0 WCHA) early in the second period Saturday night. No. 4 Minnesota would hold onto the 2-1 victory to split the series with No. 11 Colorado College at Mariucci arena. The Gophers host the St. Cloud State Huskies on Friday.

Gopher women defeat Arkansas in opener

Minnesota Gophers women's basketball team opened the 2011-12' season with a 68-60 win over the University of Arkansas Friday night. Rachel Banham led the Gophers with 15-points. Minnesota plays No. 13 Florida State Saturday followed by South Florida on Sunday.

A few Gophers could reach 30-goals

The top ranked Golden Gophers hockey team is off to a 9-1 start. Goalie Kent Patterson has been great, but the offensive firepower has been superb. Kyle Rau, Nick Bjugstad, and Erik Haula could reach 30-goals before the season ends.

Kent Patterson pitched his fifth shutout of the season and the Gophers renewed their rivalry against North Dakota with a 2-0 win. Nick Bjugstad and Tom Serratore scored for Minnesota.
