The answer to the trivia question of who won the final high school football game ever played in the Metrodome is now known. The answer is Owatonna.

The Huskies shutout Brainerd 24-0 in the AAAAA Championship on Saturday evening, the last high school football game to be played in the building before it is demolished to make way for the new home of the Minnesota Vikings in 2016.

Aaron Peterson scored a pair of touchdown runs in the game for Owatonna, and Sam Fenske returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown.

That was all the scoring the Huskies needed to capture their first high school football championship.

Peterson finished with 183 yards rushing on 35 carries on the evening.

In the AAA Championship St. Croix Lutheran defeated New London-Spicer in a wild 48-44 game. Alone the two teams combined to put up 38 points in a crazy fourth quarter.

The Crusaders rushing attack was too much for the Wildcats, as they put up 417 yards on the ground in the game. Hans Klingenschmidt put up 177 yards and a touchdown and Trevor Koester ran for 139 yards and two scores to lead the St. Croix Lutheran ground attack.

The Wildcats hung with the Crusaders stride for stride, until the end. Adam Essler ran for 194 yards and two touchdowns and Ryan Vraa completed 5 of 11 passes for 125 yards and 3 touchdowns.

In the Class A Championship Mahnomen defeated Dawson/Boyd 46-13.

Sophomore quarterback Tom Pavek ran it 24 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns to help lead a rushing attack that finished just shy of 400 yards on the day.

The Indians built a quick 18-0 first quarter lead in the game, and pushed the lead to 31-7 at the half.

For the Blackjacks Joey Lee connected with Michael Lee twice on touchdown passes. Joey Lee finished 27 of 52 for 230 yards and two touchdowns to go with an interception.

Dawson/Boyd struggled on third down though, they were just 2 of 12 on third down conversions on the day.

Mahnomen and Owatonna both played in first Prep Bowl ever held at the Metrodome in 1982.
