The weekly Big Ten hockey awards have a distinctly Minnesota feel to them this week. Minnesota swept the weekly awards following their impressive sweep of Wisconsin last weekend.

The Gophers outscored the Badgers 13-2 (4-0, 9-2) in their two games on the weekend and early this week the team was well-decorated for it.

The conference announced that Gophers junior defenseman Michael Brodzinski was named the Big Ten's first star of the week, while junior forward Hudson Fasching was named the second star and freshman goaltender Eric Schierhorn was named the third star.

According to the Associated Press, it's the second time the Gophers have swept the conference awards.

Brodzinski notched his first career hat trick Saturday night helping the Gophers sweep Wisconsin. It was his third career weekly honor and second of the season.

Fasching led the conference with five points in Minnesota's sweep, including two goals and three assists. He opened the weekend's scoring just 12 seconds into Friday night's game.

It was Fasching's sixth career weekly award and his second of the season.

Schierhorn made 54 saves in the two victories – including a 29-save shutout of the Badgers Friday night. It was his third career shutout.

He stopped 25 more shots and recorded his first career assist in Minnesota's Saturday night victory.

Minnesota, which has won five straight games, will play in the North Star College Hockey Cup this weekend. They open up play against Bemidji State on Friday night.
