3-time dunk champion likes LaVine's chances in the NBA dunk contest

Timberwolves fans know Zach LaVine can dunk. Since he was drafted by the Wolves in the first round, LaVine has openly lobbied for a chance to show off his dunking prowess in the NBA's Dunk Contest next month.

Whether or not he gets chosen for the contest this year though remains to be seen, but Wednesday he picked up the support of the contest's only three-time champion Denver Nuggets guard Nate Robinson.

According to the Pioneer Press, Robinson likes LaVine's chances if the Timberwolves guard is selected.

"If Zach LaVine's in the dunk contest, I'll say he will win because he can jump," Robinson, who won the contest in 2006, 2009 and 2010 told the newspaper.

And with moves like this it might be hard to envision a dunk competition without LaVine.

While, LaVine is still earning his stripes and learning through mistakes on the court, it didn't take him long to show his ability to throw down.

Washington's John Wall won the event last year, Minnesota's last and only dunk champion was Isiah Rider in 1994.

This year's contest will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Feb. 14. The event will highlight the NBA's All-Star Saturday Night. The NBA says this year's participants will be announced soon.
