The first day of the final Prep Bowl at the Metrodome is in the books. Four new state champions were crowned on Friday and on Saturday three more are set to be decided.

Eden Prairie defeated Rosemount 28-7 in the Class 6A Championship game. It was the third straight championship for the Eagles and their ninth in the history of their program.

The Eagles were dominating. They held Rosemount to 157 total yards, while rolling up 403 in the game themselves including 285 on the ground. The Eden Prairie defense gave Rosemount fits all night, holding them to just 1 of 10 on third down.

It didn't take the Eagles long to get on the scoreboard, less than five minutes into the game quarterback Ryan Connelly connected with Charlie Venable on a 54 yard touchdown pass. Two of Connelly's three completed passes went for touchdowns.

Anthony Anderson took care of the rest. He carried the ball 19 times for 165 yards and a score. Dan Fischer also rushed for a touchdown in the game.

In Class 4A, the Hutchinson Tigers remained dominant, rolling through the season unbeaten with a 49-7 victory over Holy Angels.

It was a huge day for Robbie Grimsley, who carried the ball just six times for 261 yards and three touchdowns. All three of those touchdowns happened in the first quarter as Grimsley scored on carries of 76, 57 and 92 yards. The 92-yard run was a Prep Bowl record.

He wasn't alone though. Tory Adams also found the end zone three times in the game, as he ran for 147 yards on 19 carries. In all, the Tigers put up 454 yards rushing on the ground in the game.

In Class 2A, the defense's told the story most of the way, but in the end Chatfield got the best of Minneota/Lincoln HI 17-7. The Gophers scored 10 points in just over the final five minutes to put the game out of reach for the Vikings.

Jacob Neis carried the ball 19 times for 105 yards and a touchdown.

It was the first state championship for Chatfield since 1996.

The key series came in the third quarter after Viking quarterback Austin Buysse found Nathan Pavek on a 57-yard completion, the Gopher defense stiffened and stopped the Vikings on a fourth-and-goal from inside the one-yard line to hold on to the lead.

Then Chatfield responded by marching 97 yards down the field to kick a 19-yard field goal by Nate Skare to take the 10-0 lead.

And in the 9-man championship, Grand Meadow defeated Underwood 28-6.

Superlark running back Landon Jacobson carried the ball 28 times for 128 yards and a touchdown. Trenton Bleifus added two touchdowns in the game for Grand Meadow.

It was the first state championship for Grand Meadow, which finished second last year.
