49ers select Trey Lance 3rd overall in NFL Draft
The San Francisco 49ers selected North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance with the third overall pick in Thursday's NFL Draft, sending the Marshall native to the Bay Area.
Lance is one of the draft's most polarizing prospects after his time with the Bison. In his lone season as a starter, Lance accounted for 42 total touchdowns and zero interceptions while leading NDSU to the national championship in 2019.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lance wasn't able to play a full season in 2020. Although he had an exhibition showcase in the fall, it wasn't known where Lance would land in a quarterback heavy draft.
Lance joins a solid situation in San Francisco with playmakers George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
