5 Lynx named among 25 greatest players in WNBA history

The Lynx's dynasty was well-represented on

Five current and former members of the Minnesota Lynx were recognized on Sunday as the WNBA released its "W25" list commemorating the 25 greatest players in the league's history.

The list is in conjunction with the WNBA's 25th season and with four WNBA championships, it's no surprise that the Lynx were heavily represented.

Sylvia Fowles was one of 10 active players on the list, spending half of her 14-year career with the Lynx. A seven-time All-Star, the 2017 WNBA MVP, and a two-time WNBA champion, Fowles is also the all-time rebounding leader with 3,663 boards and counting.

Lynx legend Maya Moore also made the list despite not playing since 2018 to focus on social justice issues. Moore was a force on the court, leading Minnesota to all four of its WNBA titles while also becoming a six-time All-Star and winning the 2014 MVP award.

Another staple of the Lynx dynasty was Lindsay Whalen, who was honored after a 14-year career. The Hutchinson native was a five-time All-Star and ranks third in WNBA history with 2,348 assists. Whalen is currently the head coach of the Gopher women's basketball team.

Seimone Agustus was honored after a 15-year career that began after being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft. Agustus spent 14 seasons in Minnesota becoming an eight-time All-Star and four-time WNBA champion.

While the Lynx dynasty was well represented, so were the early years of the franchise. Katie Smith joined the Lynx during their arrival into the WNBA in 1999 and spent six seasons in Minnesota. Her 6,452 points are eighth in WNBA history and she is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The 'W25" list was selected from a list of 72 candidates and were chosen based on factors such as on-court performance and ability, leadership, sportsmanship and community service.

WNBA fans will be able to select their greatest player in NBA history by voting from the 'W25' list through Sept. 15.
