The deal is pending Buxton passing a physical, which he is expected to take Tuesday. He is expected to begin his pro career with the Twins' rookie league team in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Pioneer Press reports the Twins have reached a deal with second-round draft pick, Jose Berrios. The right-handed pitcher from Puerto Rico agreed to a $1.55 million signing bonus. He was the No. 32 pick in the draft.
Byron Buxton, the No. 2 pick in the draft, is close to signing with the Twins, according to his agent. Buxton is expected to arrive in Minnesota on Monday and take a physical Tuesday.
Twins GM Terry Ryan tells the Pioneer Press that contrary to popular belief, the Twins offense isn’t very good. He says averaging 4 runs a game "is not enough in the American League, by any stretch." With the trade deadline fast approaching, Ryan says no player is off limits.
